Wie kann man diesen song so kritisieren? Es geht um vergewaltigung und das "rumpumpum" als kindisches unnütz zu benennen zeugt von unkenntnis. Denn ihre "gelangweilte" stimme und das oberflächliche herunterspielen sind die kritische ironie ihrer aussage
Dieses obernervige rombababom könnte aufgrund seiner Ähnlichkeit zu "Little Drummer Boy" vielleicht zur Weihnachtszeit wieder ein "Revival" erfahren. Gibts an diesem Song eigentlich was Gutes? - Nein.

Schade, dass der Song so bald nach dem "California King Bed" kam, denn dieser hier ist wieder deutlich schlechter. Eine eher langweilige Sache, die wieder mehr nach der üblichen Rihanna klingt.
Echt een klassieker heeft Rihanna niet in handen met 'Man Down', maar je moet wel heel chagerijnig zijn om dit niet leuk te vinden. Rihanna is een artiest die graag experimenteert en dat pakt meestal erg goed uit, zo ook bij dit nummer. Hele leuke muziek dit.
ik sluit me aan bij Dave. Ze toont wel lef om met een reaggae-plaatje te komen. Daarmee laat ze zien dat ze verder durft te kijken dan de genre's die voor haar al gesneden koek zijn. En het klinkt ook helemaal niet verkeerd hoor!
Man Down is alweer het vijfde nummer dat Rihanna van haar album trekt om als single uit te brengen. En dat is maar goed ook, want dit is een lekker plaatje! Het is af en toe strontvervelend, maar dat ram-pa-pa-pam werkt aan de andere kant weer ontzettend aanstekelijk. Ja, Rihanna maakt reggae weer tof!

Ik ben verrast dat Man Down toch in Nederland als single word uitgegeven! Alleen in Amerika was de bedoeling, tot ik gisterenavond met vreugde in de Single Top 100 Man Down op de 16de plaats zag staan! Prachtig nummer, met een betekenis! Het werd tijd dat dit nummer als single uit zou komen. Ik had het 8 maanden terug al kunnen voorspellen toen Loud uitkwam. Bravo!
Je kan veel zeggen, maar Rihanna heeft wel lef. Beter dan haar laatste 'smartlap' California King Bed. En mag ik dit even zeggen: wat ziet ze er goed uit in de bijbehorende clip.

Well of course you would to cry it is jail after all but I ask the question again, why did you do it in the 1st place? “Cause I didn’t mean to hurt him, Coulda been someone’s son, And I took his heart when, I pulled up that gun, Rum bum bum bum Rum bum bum bum Rum bum bum bum, Man Down (Repeat last 2 lines again)” So we now know that you killed him with a gun but you say you didn’t mean to hurt him, did you pull that trigger by accident. Then those Rum bum bum bums are so annoying and pointless.
“Oh mama mama mama, I just shot a man down, In central station, In front of a big ol’ crowd, Oh why oh why (Repeat 1st 3 lines)”. You shot him in central station in front of people and asking why oh why you did it, I’m still wondering why you did it too. “It’s a twenty two, I call her Peggy Sue, When she fits right down in my shoes, What do you expect me to do, If your playing me for a fool, I will lose my cool, And reach for my fire arm”. WTF! Who the bloody hell is Peggy Sue. You were talking about killing a man then you talk about some random woman. This part of the song makes no sense. EDIT: I learned that Peggy Sue was actually the gun. Still stupid though. How do you expect every listener to figure that out.

At least now you have come back to whining about killing a man and not spewing non sense. She fails to explain why she killed him and all she does is whine about killing him and not providing an explanation why she did it. If the whole point of this song was to not provide an explanation why she killed him then count me out. Her vocals are awful on this track too but when was the last time Rihanna actually showed any real vocal talent.
Apart from her music I don’t think there is anything else that makes her popular, she has no personality for example. In conclusion this Track shows poor vocal ability and is so annoying.

And Rihanna continues to prove just how poor a lyrics writer she is, first with wanting to be the "only girl in the world" which is rather selfish, arrogant and then forgetting her own name. That's follwed by the rubbish of S&M which really couldn't be any worse lyrically. Now she wants us to Man Down to Rumpapapum, Rumpapapum, Rumpapapum? Anyway, the song itself isn't horrible but Rihanna's poor vocal ability and the lyrics drag this down a lot!

Much better than the trite of S&M and Californiz King Bed. Fun tune with a cool 'rumpapapum' hook but song feels a bit too repetitive without many differences between the verses and chorus.

Löste eine große Skandalwelle in den USA aus, da sie die Aussage des Songs für zu pikant halten. Kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass ein Mädchen, welches Opfer eines sexuellen Gewaltaktes wurde, ihren Peiniger umbringen möchte, "weil Rihanna das auch so gemacht hat in ihrem Video / Lied". Der Song selbst kann sich hören lassen.
a very unlikely single choice - i was not expecting this. i like it more than i liked s&m when it came out, and i like that it has a different sound but as a single i'm not really feeling it. will give it a few weeks and some more plays though and see what happens.

auch wenn mir ihre dance-igen sachen wie S&M besser gefallen, find ich auch diesen song irgendwie ganz putzig...
edit: hat sich zu einem richtigen sommerhit für mich entwickelt. finde das ganze ganz schön ironisch. zuerst säuselt sie so süss über einen mord, auch ihr jamaica-slang ist auch ganz schön (schlecht) eingeübt, da sie doch die halbe zeit wieder ins american englisch rutscht. aber wie gesagt: uhhh putzig! It starts out decently, however from the first "rumpapapum" I'm done with it. The vocals are bad, and though the beat is cool, it's not enough to save the track from all the other crap going on.
Eines der besten Tracks von RiRi's neuem Album Loud wo sie wiedermal ihre Voice Skills unter Beweis stellt und sich an ihre karibischen Wurzeln besinnt. Ein düsteres Reggaestück vom feinsten.

Rihanna schnappt sich den Little Drummer Boy und schafft sich so eines der Albumhighlights! Starker, düsterer Raggea-Pop Track, mit einem von Sängerin Shontelle & Rihanna clever geschriebenen Text. Rihanna hört sich gerade gegen Ende wie eine weibliche Version von Sean Paul an, und besinnt sich absolut auf ihre Karibischen Wurzeln, quasi eine Mischung aus dem Album Music of the Sun mit G4L von Rated R. So, endlich die volle Version gehört, und ich finde de Song wirklich ziemlich stark. Für mich ist es schon ein Highlight des Albums, er klingt auch ganz anders als die übrigen Album-Tracks und hat wieder ein tolles Reggae-Feeling, allerdings nicht auf dem niedrigen Niveau wie ihre Songs aus ihrem Debut-Album, ganz im Gegenteil!
